You can choose to change this name if you want, but often there\u2019s no real need to. If you do want to change the variable name, remember that this will\u00a0also affect other components on the page that use this variable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><em>Selected Hierarchy<\/em>\u00a0is always a variable, so that other components on the page will dynamically update when the Hierarchy Picker\u00a0publishes the hierarchy\u00a0that the user has selected. This may not suit your needs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"best-prac\"><i class=\"fa fa-trophy fa-2x fa-pull-left\"><\/i><span class=\"best-prac-text\">BEST PRACTICE<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"best-prac-desc\">You should specify the default value for the selected hierarchy and entity\u00a0so the user can understand what data is being displayed when the page first opens.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Let\u2019s change the default data that is displayed. We do this by creating defaults for the variables\u00a0specified in the components in the previous steps. We are interested in 2 variables: <strong>selectedEntity<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>selectedHierarchy<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li>Click the <em><strong>Default Values<\/strong><\/em> button on the Studio toolbar.<\/li>\n<li><strong>selectedEntity<\/strong> is listed first, update it to specify \"Hottes\".<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Add<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>Add a variable called <strong>selectedHierarchy<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/strong>with a type of <em>Text.<\/em>\u00a0Type in the hierarchy\u00a0name: <em>P2 Corporate.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">You should now see the Hierarchy Picker and Hierarchy update to reflect the new defaults. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"left-bar\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-primers\/variables\/\">Variables<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/default-value\/\">Default Values<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><strong>Step 6.
