For general information on templates and attributes, see: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/primers\/templates\/\" data-slimstat-tracking=\"false\" data-slimstat-callback=\"true\" data-slimstat-type=\"2\">Templates<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/primers\/attributes\/\">Attributes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">A <em>template<\/em> in P2 Server is a way of defining the attributes of an <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/primers\/entities\/\">entity<\/a>.\u00a0All entities that are assigned a template take on the attributes of that template. For example, all <strong><em>Oil Producing Well<\/em><\/strong> templates will have attributes like <em>Tubing Head Pressure, Tubing Head Temperature, <\/em>and<em> Choke Position<\/em>; whereas <em><strong>Water Injection Wells<\/strong><\/em> might have <em>Injection Pressure, Annulus Pressure<\/em>, and <em>Water Flowrate<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Note that a \u201ctemplate\u201d is not a base object in P2 Server, and in common usage the meaning of <em>template<\/em> may change, depending on our\u00a0frame of reference:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li>When we talk about a template in\u00a0reference to a particular entity, then we are normally referring to the <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/glossary\/template-instance\/\" data-slimstat-tracking=\"false\" data-slimstat-callback=\"true\" data-slimstat-type=\"2\">template instance<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>When we otherwise talk about a template, then we are normally referring to the <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/glossary\/template-definition\/\" data-slimstat-tracking=\"false\" data-slimstat-callback=\"true\" data-slimstat-type=\"2\">template definition<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"best-prac\"><i class=\"fa fa-trophy fa-2x fa-pull-left\"><\/i><span class=\"best-prac-text\">BEST PRACTICE<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"best-prac-desc\">Before you start, spend some time thinking about what this template represents, and what would be the <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/primers\/attributes\/\">attributes<\/a> inherited by any entity that is assigned this template. Also think about the <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/configuring-your-system\/links-and-the-table-of-contents\/\">links<\/a> that you want to display in the Table of Contents for any\u00a0entity that has\u00a0this template designated as its primary template.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"page-subheading\"><span id=\"Management_Studio\">Server Management<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">In P2 Server Management, creating a template with some attributes requires 3 steps, all performed through the Templates menu option:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"intro-text\">\n<li>Creating the template definition, by giving the template a name, description, and template group.<\/li>\n<li>Creating attribute definitions within the template definition.<\/li>\n<li>Creating attribute value definitions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">There are 2 prerequisites: you must have already created both the template group that you want this template to belong to, and the\u00a0links\u00a0you intend to assign to this template.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"left-bar\"><strong>Prerequisite Steps<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/configuring-your-system\/creating-template-groups\/\">Creating Template Groups<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/configuring-your-system\/links-and-the-table-of-contents\/\">Links and the Table of Contents<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Once the template is created, it can be <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/configuring-your-system\/configuring-entities\/\">assigned to an entity<\/a>\u00a0- this step will also define where the attribute values will come from for that particular entity.<\/p>\n<h3>Creating a Template Definition<\/h3>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">1. Click <strong>Templates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">3. Assign the links you want to associate with this template.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"intro-text\">Links will appear in the Table of Contents for any entity that has designated this template as its primary template.<\/li>\n<li class=\"intro-text\">Links must already exist in the system. When you have finished, click the <strong>Save<\/strong> button in the top right corner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Creating Attribute Definitions<\/h3>\n<p class=\"left-bar-blue\"><strong>Refresher<\/strong>: Where an <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/primers\/entities\/\">entity<\/a> defines a real world or conceptual object, it is the <em>attributes <\/em>of an entity that describe the characteristics of that object. It\u2019s these characteristics, or <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-server\/primers\/attributes\/\">attributes<\/a>, that are associated with data that we generally want to model. For example, the suction pressure of a pump.\u00a0We can break these attributes down even further to gain an insight into different aspects of that attribute, called <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/glossary\/attribute-value\/\" data-slimstat-tracking=\"false\" data-slimstat-callback=\"false\" data-slimstat-type=\"2\" data-slimstat-clicked=\"false\" data-slimstat-async=\"false\">attribute values<\/a>. For example, the maximum allowed suction pressure. We define attributes within a template because the template models the type of entity we will assign\u00a0it to.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">7. It is automatically generated by the system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Template Definition Tab<\/h3>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">The screenshot below shows an example of configured template definitions. These columns define an <strong>attribute value definition<\/strong>\u00a0for the planned THP value from the well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/attributevaluedefinitions.png\" rel=\"lightbox-10\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7763\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/attributevaluedefinitions-800x131.png\" alt=\"attributevaluedefinitions\" width=\"1000\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">To add more <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/glossary\/attribute-value-definition\/\">attribute value definitions<\/a> for an attribute, you need to add more repeating sections\u00a0like G-J. If you look at columns K-N, you will see that they add another attribute value definition - this time for the Actual THP value.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">You can add as many attribute value definitions as you need to, such as Max or Min, by adding more repeating sections like columns G-J.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Note that ONE of these must be the <strong>default value<\/strong> (Is Default = TRUE) so that P2 Server knows what data to serve if an attribute value definition is not specified by a consuming application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"note\">Done! You have now configured your templates with assigned attributes.
