For help on later versions, read the <a title=\"Data Selector\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/data-selector\/\">Data Selector<\/a> article.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"page-subheading\">Overview<\/h3>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Your dataset uses a datasource to connect to a database or other source of data. You need to <a title=\"Add Data\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/add-data\/\">add the dataset<\/a> that you require and then configure the parameters so that you can use the returned data on your page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesconfig.png\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3299\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesconfig-800x547.png\" alt=\"timeseriesconfig\" width=\"800\" height=\"547\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Name<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>Unlike <a title=\"Add a Relational Dataset\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/add-data\/add-a-dataset\/\">tabular datasets<\/a> where the name is based on an SQL query, Time Series data does not have a default name. You should give the data an appropriately descriptive name.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Using<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>Time Series data can be based on either tags or entities.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Tags<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>Specify one or more tags for which to display data. You can choose the list these tags explicitly or you can subscribe to an event.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Entities<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>Specify one or more entities for which to display data. You can choose the list these entities explicitly or you can subscribe to an event. You can further restrict the entities to ones that are associated with a specific template (e.g. Oil Producing Well) and that have a specific attribute (e.g. tubing head pressure).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Group by<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>You can choose to group the data by time or entity, or you can choose no grouping.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Parameters<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>Parameters are used to provide the time series data with boundaries that determine the type of data and the frequency with which it is returned.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>SampleInterval<\/em><\/strong>: The frequency with which the data is collected. This is a number that is specified in seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>SampleMethod<\/em><\/strong>: The way in which data is selected from a continuous stream. Available options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Raw<\/em>: Every single point of data between the specified start and end times is returned. This is often not desirable as it can result in large volumes of data that can slow the system down. Additionally, more data can be returned than is able to be rendered on the screen at the given resolution, resulting in illegible displays.<\/li>\n<li><em>Average<\/em>: The raw data is transformed by applying an <em>average<\/em> function to the data. This transform returns a time-weighted average of the raw data over the specified SampleInterval.<\/li>\n<li><em>Linear Interpolate<\/em>: The raw data is transformed by applying a <em>linear interpolation<\/em> function to the data.<\/li>\n<li><em>Last Known Value<\/em>: The raw data is transformed by applying a <em>last known value<\/em> function to the data. This transform returns the last known raw value at the end of each SampleInterval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>StartTime<\/strong><\/em>: Only data between (and including) the specified start and end times will be returned.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>EndTime<\/strong><\/em>: Only data between (and including) the specified start and end times will be returned.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Preview<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>After you have specified all your settings and parameters, you should be able to see some data. Click <strong>Preview <\/strong>to display the data in a table. You can keep this window open as you build your page.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Publish events from dataset<\/strong>:<\/td>\n<td>\n<p>You can take a list or a single value from the dataset, and publish this as an event to be used by other controls on the page.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click <strong>Add <\/strong>to add a dataset event. Choose <strong>List<\/strong> (default) or <strong>Single<\/strong> <em>(see below)<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Remove <\/strong>if you want to remove an event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>List<\/strong>: Here your event is a list of values, such as when you want to use this list in a combo box. Example: Assign <strong>Event<\/strong> <em>Areas<\/em>, with the values of <strong>Column <\/strong><em>Area<\/em>, and make the list <strong>Distinct<\/strong> (no duplicates). (This will assign the list of areas from the query results, to the <em>Areas<\/em> event.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Event<\/strong><\/em>: Give the event a meaningful name.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Column<\/strong><\/em>: The dataset column whose values are published in the event list.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Distinct<\/strong><\/em>: Select this option if you only want distinct items to show in your list (de-duplicated).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Single<\/strong>: Here your event is a single value from a specified column. This would be a good event to use in a label or as a parameter to another query. Example: Assign <strong>Event<\/strong> <em>OilValue<\/em>, with the value of <strong>Column <\/strong><em>OIL<\/em> where column <em>Mnth<\/em> (<strong>Filter Column)<\/strong>, is equal to <em>Jul<\/em> (<strong>Filter Value<\/strong>).<br \/> (This will assign the oil sales value for the month of July, from the query results, to the <em>OilValue<\/em> event.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Event<\/strong><\/em>: Give the event a meaningful name.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Column<\/strong><\/em>: The dataset column whose values are published in the event list.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Filter Column<\/strong><\/em>: The column of the dataset that determines the value that will be displayed. This is used in conjunction with the <a title=\"Filter Column and Filter Value\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/filter-column-and-filter-value\/\">Filter Value<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Filter Value<\/strong><\/em>: The row of the dataset that provides the value that will be displayed. This ensures that the event only gets a single value, for the specified column value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"page-subheading\"><span id=\"Tutorial\">Tutorial<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Time Series data is used to display real-time data on a page, and is useful in live monitoring situations. In this tutorial we\u2019ll add Time series data for a well to a line chart. We'll also add components that allows the user to change the time range, sample interval, sample method, and the well being monitored.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseries.png\" rel=\"lightbox-1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3568\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseries-800x371.png\" alt=\"timeseries\" width=\"800\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">This tutorial is quite involved, so we\u2019ll do it in 2 parts. Let\u2019s go through this process, step-by-step.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"page-subheading\"><span id=\"Step_by_Step_1_Adding_a_Relational_Datasetto_Populate_a_Combo_Box\">Step by Step 1: Adding Time Series Data and Events<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Before you start, open a new tab in Explorer and click the \u201cCreate a New Page in Studio Mode\u201d thumbnail. Choose the <a title=\"Grid Layout\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/controls\/grid-layout\/\">Grid Layout<\/a> \u2013 you can adjust the rows and columns if you like but it\u2019s not important for this exercise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">You will need to adjust the configuration to suit your data at your site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><strong>Step 1. Add Time Series Data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesadd.png\" rel=\"lightbox-2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3569\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesadd-800x493.png\" alt=\"timeseriesadd\" width=\"800\" height=\"493\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">This is the first step to adding time series data.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"intro-text\">\n<li>Click <strong>Add Data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Model <\/strong>option.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">The configuration panel for the time series data will appear to the left of the canvas, with the parameters pre-populated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesexplain.png\" rel=\"lightbox-3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3570\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesexplain-800x398.png\" alt=\"timeseriesexplain\" width=\"800\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><strong>Step 2. Configure the Time Series Data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesconfig1.png\" rel=\"lightbox-4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3571\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesconfig1-800x567.png\" alt=\"timeseriesconfig\" width=\"800\" height=\"567\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Fill in the fields and parameters as follows:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li><strong>Name<\/strong>: TimeSeriesData<\/li>\n<li><strong>Using<\/strong>: Entities<\/li>\n<li><strong>Entities<\/strong>: (Event) selectedEntity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Templates and Attributes are specified slightly differently. First you need to select the template, then select the attribute, and then click Add. Repeat this to add multiple attributes. Let's add the first attribute.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li><strong>Template<\/strong>: Select \"Oil Producing Well\"<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attribute<\/strong>: Select \"Current Flowrate\" (grouped under \"Oil Flowrate\")<\/li>\n<li>Now click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Now let's add the 2nd attribute.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li><strong>Template<\/strong>: Select \"Oil Producing Well\" (this should still be selected after you've added the 1st attribute)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attribute<\/strong>: Select \"Daily Avg Flowrate\" (grouped under \"Oil Flowrate\")<\/li>\n<li>Now click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Now let's complete the remaining fields.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li><strong>Group By<\/strong>: None<\/li>\n<li><strong>SampleInterval<\/strong>: (Event) sampleInterval<\/li>\n<li><strong>SampleMethod<\/strong>: (Event) sampleMethod<\/li>\n<li><strong>StartTime<\/strong>: (Event) startTime<\/li>\n<li><strong>EndTime<\/strong>: (Event) endTime<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"note\">It\u2019s a good idea to always click Preview to make sure you are getting the data you think you are. At this point, however, we need to specify some event defaults before the data will appear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><strong>Step 3. <\/strong><strong>Add Default Values for the Events<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesevents.png\" rel=\"lightbox-5\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3572\" src=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/timeseriesevents-800x512.png\" alt=\"timeseriesevents\" width=\"800\" height=\"512\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Adding default values allows the components in the page to display default data and selection values. In doing this, we can populate combo boxes automatically when the page loads, and avoid having an empty page. You can create an <a title=\"Page Events\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/events\/\">event<\/a> at any time, but let's do this now.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"intro-text\">\n<li>Click the <em><strong>Event Defaults<\/strong><\/em> button on the far right side of the Studio toolbar.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Add an event called <em>\u201csampleMethod\u201d<\/em> with a Text value of Average.<\/li>\n<li>Add an event called \"<em>sampleInterval<\/em>\" with a Number value of 86400 (this is the number of seconds in a day).<\/li>\n<li>Add an event called \"<em>startTime<\/em>\" with a Datetime value of 02\/03\/2015 12:00:00 AM.<\/li>\n<li>Add an event called \"<em>endTime<\/em>\" with a Datetime value of 31\/03\/2015 12:00:00 AM.<\/li>\n<li>Add an event called \"<em>selectedEntity<\/em>\" with a List value of Hunter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><strong>Step 4. Let\u2019s finish off the page by adding some components. First we\u2019ll add a chart so we can see the default data in action, and then we'll add some controls so the user can manipulate the data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\"><strong>Step 1. Drag and drop a Chart component onto another cell on the page. The sample interval is defined in seconds, however we want to present more user-friendly names to the user.
