Overview<\/h2>\n

The Embedded Trend component is used to embed a smaller version of a trend within an Explorer page, and is used for quick and simple diagnostics in Display Mode. As with the full Explorer trend, you can use hairlines on the embedded trend, and add comments to tags at a point in time, by clicking the trace line.<\/p>\n

In Display Mode, you can drag and drop time series data labels from the page onto the trend, or drag tags and attributes from the Navigators. Right-click on the embedded trend to open a full Trend display.<\/p>\n

Tutorial<\/h2>\n

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to add an embedded trend to a page in Studio, and then how to use the trend in Display Mode.<\/p>\n

Adding the Embedded Trend<\/h3>\n

Step 1. Prepare a Studio Page<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before you start, click the New Page<\/strong> button on the Home tab of the ribbon. Choose the Precision Layout<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Step 2. Add an Embedded Trend<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Embedded Trend component is found under Charts<\/strong> in the Toolbox. Drag and drop it onto a page, and resize it so that it can be used to add data in Display Mode.<\/p>\n

1. Drag and drop it onto a page in Studio (Design Mode).<\/p>\n

2. Resize the embedded trend so that it can be used to add data in display mode.<\/p>\n

Using the Embedded Trend<\/h3>\n

Save the page by clicking Finish and Open<\/strong><\/a> \"\" so that you can see it in Display Mode.<\/p>\n

This is how your blank embedded trend appears in Display Mode.<\/p>\n

Dragging Values onto the Embedded Trend from the Navigators<\/h4>\n

Still in Display Mode, see how you can drag and drop values from the Hierarchy Navigator and Tags Navigator onto the embedded trend.<\/p>\n

1. On the Page ribbon tab, click Hierarchy<\/strong> to open the Hierarchy Navigator.<\/p>\n

2. Select an entity.<\/p>\n

3. Open the Attributes Panel, by clicking Show Attributes<\/strong> (the label changes to Hide Attributes<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

4. Drag and drop an attribute value onto the embedded trend.<\/p>\n

5. Click Hide Attributes<\/strong> to hide the Attributes Panel.<\/p>\n

The attribute value appears on the embedded trend.<\/p>\n

You can also add a tag: open the Tags Navigator, then drag and drop a tag onto the embedded trend.<\/p>\n

Dragging Values onto the Embedded Trend from Data Labels on the Page<\/h4>\n

Also in Display Mode, you can add a data label's value onto the embedded trend, provided the value is a tag or an attribute.<\/p>\n

First, we'll add data labels to the page. Then we'll add these to the embedded trend in Display Mode.<\/p>\n

1. On the Page ribbon tab, click Edit<\/strong> to get back into Studio (Design) Mode.<\/p>\n

2. On the Studio ribbon tab, click Hierarchy<\/strong> to open the Hierarchy Navigator.<\/p>\n

3. Select an entity.<\/p>\n

4. Open the Attributes Panel by clicking Show Attributes<\/strong> (the label changes to Hide Attributes<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

5. Drag and drop an attribute value onto the page (which is still in Studio Mode), just above the embedded trend.<\/p>\n

Configuring an Embedded Trend<\/h2>\n

The embedded trend works without any configuration, as many of the options are selected by default. Its purpose is to provide a place for users to add or remove data in Display Mode.<\/p>\n

If you would like to configure the embedded trend, here are the options:<\/p>\n

1. Data<\/strong>:
\nYou can add data in Design Mode, which is added to in Display Mode. Either drag and drop tags and attributes into this area, from the Navigators, or search for data in the Search<\/em> edit box.<\/p>\n

2. Show Legend<\/strong>:
\nSelected by default. If you deselect the check box, the trend won't have legends.<\/p>\n

3. Show x-axis<\/strong>:
\nSelected by default. If you deselect the check box, the trend won't have the horizontal x-axis, showing time.<\/p>\n

4. Show y-axis<\/strong>:
\nSelected by default. If you deselect the check box, the trend won't have the vertical y-axis, showing values.<\/p>\n

5. Auto Range<\/strong>:
\nSelected by default. Auto Range manipulates the y-axis so that all values appear on the trend.<\/p>\n

6. Trend Controls<\/strong>:
\nTip: Display the trend control values on the page, using text labels, or allow users to changes these by using interactive controls such as a Combo Box or Option Links.<\/em><\/p>\n

- Start Time<\/strong> defines the start of the trend range. The default value here is the page default<\/a> for startTime<\/em>.
\n- End Time<\/strong> defines the end of the trend range. The default value here is the page default for endTime<\/em>.
\n- Sample Interval<\/strong> defines the method (for example, average<\/em>) that P2 Server uses to collect the trend data. The default value here is the page default for pageSampleMethod<\/em>.
\n- Sample Method<\/strong> defines the interval (for example, 1 week<\/em>) that P2 Server uses to collect the trend data. The default value here is the page default for pageSampleInterval<\/em>.
\n- Hairline Mode<\/strong> defines the number of hairlines allowable on the embedded trend (Single, Dual, Multiple or None). The default is None<\/em>.<\/p>\n

7. Hairline Start and Hairline End<\/strong>:
\nThe times here apply to the hairline start and end times. The defaults are hairlineStart<\/em> and hairlineEnd<\/em>, respectively. The values change as you pick the earliest (hairline start) and latest (hairline end) times.<\/p>\n

8. Entity Context<\/strong>:
\nSet the Entity Context if you have an ad hoc calculation as part of the embedded trend data. selectedEntity<\/em> will update for the selected entity on the Hierarchy Navigator, if you open the page from the entity's Table of Contents<\/a> ribbon tab.<\/p>\n

9. Style<\/strong>:
\nSelect a style from the drop-down list.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

Configuring Data for the Embedded Trend<\/h3>\n

Either drag and drop attribute values or tags from the Navigators, or type the values into the Search<\/em> edit box.<\/p>\n

This video shows how to add an attribute value, a tag, and an ad hoc calculation to the embedded trend, by typing into the Search<\/em> edit box.<\/p>\n

Note that in Display Mode, you can remove data that was added in Display Mode [2]<\/strong>, but data added in Design Mode [1]<\/strong> cannot be removed.<\/p>\n

To remove a single trace item, click the little X<\/strong> in the legend. To remove all data added in Display Mode, click Reload<\/strong> on the Page ribbon tab.<\/p>\n
