For the latest, see <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/default-value\/\">Default Values<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"page-subheading\">Overview<\/h2>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Default values set the context of a page when it is opened in Display Mode, by supplying the <em>initial<\/em> values to the page's variables.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">For example, a <a title=\"Combo Box\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/controls\/combo-box\/\"> Combo Box<\/a> should have a default value assigned to its <em>Selected Option<\/em> variable, otherwise there is no selection when the page opens, and the user has to select something.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Defaults values also set the times (start time and end time) that are used on your page by various components. others need to be added, as required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"left-bar\"><strong>Related:<\/strong> Read about <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-primers\/variables\/\"> variables<\/a> and how these change in Display Mode, through the use of interoperative controls.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"page-subheading\">Trend Default Values<\/h2>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Trends also have default values, but these have been predefined and cannot be changed when you save a new, blank trend. If you open a trend through a URL or using one of the links from a page (using hyperlink, hotspot, status tiles or charts), you can override the default values. For more information on trend default values, refer to the <a title=\"Variable Parameters\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/trends\/link-to-a-trend-via-a-url\/#Variable_Parameters\"> Variable Parameters<\/a> section of <a title=\"Link to Trend via a URL\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/trends\/link-to-a-trend-via-a-url\"> Link to Trend via a URL<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"page-subheading\">Overriding Default Values<\/h2>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">If you open a page or trend from another Explorer page using <a title=\"Hyperlinks\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/controls\/hyperlink\/\"> hyperlinks<\/a>, <a title=\"Hotspots\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/controls\/hotspot\/\">hotspots<\/a>, <a title=\"Status Tiles\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/controls\/status-tile\/\"> status tiles<\/a>, or <a title=\"Charts\" href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/controls\/charts\/\">charts<\/a> that have an X Axis Link Action, you can pass values from the calling page, using <em>Variable Mapping<\/em>. If a default variable is mapped in this way, its value is overridden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">For example, if you have page with a default period of <em>November 2013<\/em>, you can open the same page via a hyperlink, assigning that page's selected period, <em>May 2015<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"left-bar\">Read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/oihelp.corporate.ifs.com\/help\/p2-explorer\/explorer-studio\/link-action-and-variable-mapping\/#Variable_Mapping\">Variable Mapping<\/a> as a way of passing values to a page or trend as it opens.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"page-subheading\">Defaults with Relative Values<\/h2>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">Some defaults, such as <strong>startTime<\/strong> and <strong>endTime<\/strong>, have values that vary relative to the current time when you open the page, for example an endTime of 'yesterday', or a startTime that is always five days before the endTime. These settings, and others, are described in the <a href=\"#Page_Times_startTime_and_endTime\">Page Times<\/a> section below.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"page-subheading\">Page Default Values<\/h2>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">When you add a new page, several page defaults (with a Variable Name, Default Value, and sometimes Data Type) are inserted in the <strong>Default Values<\/strong> panel. You need to match the variable name and <a href=\"#Variable_Types\">data type<\/a> (for example, <em>Text<\/em>), and the associated value should come from a set of options for that variable (for example, choose 'Jan' for variable <em>selectedMonth<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"instruct\">Type in the variable name, select a type, and then type in the default value.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no-toc-heading\">Naming Your Default<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">You can either name your new default to match a variable already used in a component, or you can give it a completely new name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro-text\">For example, the combo box component has the variable <em>selectedOption<\/em> set for its <strong>Selected Option<\/strong> property. You can add a new default called <em>selectedOption<\/em>, matching this, to give the component its initial value.
