This article applies to the Trends in versions 4.20 and later of IFS OI Explorer. For more, see Release History<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A trend displays time-series data, such as tags, attribute values and calculations, over a selected period of time.<\/p>\n

To create a trend, click New Trend<\/strong> on the Home<\/strong> tab of Explorer ribbon. You can add tags, attribute values and calculations to your new trend.<\/p>\n

The screenshot below shows a new trend, with three traces. The trend has five main sections:<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong><\/td>\nTrend Toolbar<\/strong><\/td>\nThe Trend Toolbar appears when a trend is opened and provides options to manage, share, refresh, or reset the trend. It also allows configuration of display settings such as Y-Scale Type, number of hairlines, and Y-Axis type. Click Auto Range<\/strong> to reset the minimum and maximum values for the trace items, so that all data points are visible on the trend.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2.<\/strong><\/td>\nTrace Window<\/strong><\/td>\nData is plotted in the Trace Window<\/a>, along with hairlines and comments.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3.<\/strong><\/td>\nTrend Controls<\/strong><\/td>\nThe selections you make in the Trend Controls<\/a> affect the time range of the chart, as well as the data collection method and interval.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4.<\/strong><\/td>\nRange Selector<\/strong><\/td>\nThe highlighted section in the range selector matches the start and end of the trend time range<\/em>. Use the range selector as a longer trend, to help identify highs and lows. You can select smaller periods within the range selector, to pick a new time range.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5.<\/strong><\/td>\nTrace Table<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

The Trace Table<\/a> lists each item (attribute, tag or calculation) in the trend, along with its description, minimum and maximum, and units. The table also displays values or statistics.<\/p>\n

Use the functionality here to format trace lines (color, style, visibility), add or remove traces, edit calculation traces, open Point Details, assign a left or right Y-Axis, and adjust display minimums and maximums.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

A saved trend also has Display Information. Click the Info button on the trend toolbar to open the Display Information in the Info Zone. Tutorial 8<\/a> describes how to add and view Display Information.<\/p>\n

Tip<\/strong>: To maximise space for the Trace Window, click any of the Range Selector, Controls<\/strong>\u00a0or Trace Table <\/strong>buttons on the toolbar to hide the respective sections.<\/p>\n

In the tutorials that follow, we\u2019ll add a trend and drop attributes into the Trace Window to create trace lines. Next, we'll explore changing selections, using the Range Selector, and adding a hairline with Comments and Cases before saving the trend.<\/p>\n

Tutorial 1: Simple Trend<\/h3>\n

In this tutorial, we create a simple trend by opening a blank trend and adding two attributes, and a tag. We then save the trend.<\/p>\n
