When you start using IFS OI Excel Add-in, you first need to connect to the IFS OI Explorer server in order to fetch entity data from IFS OI Explorer. This is done via the Connection <\/strong>task panel, which allows you to choose which IFS OI Excel Add-in server to connect to and retrieve data from.<\/p>\n

Note: When targeting IFS OI Explorer 2.6, IFS OI Excel Add-in v3.3 and later will only support Improved Entities Securities if it's connected to a server with WebAPI v1.5 or later installed.<\/p>\n

To connect to the server:<\/p>\n

1. Click the Setup <\/strong> icon on the ribbon.<\/p>\n

2. From the Server <\/strong>drop-down list, select the IFS OI Explorer server you want to connect to.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

If the server is not in the list, click the Connection<\/strong> icon (see below for details).<\/p>\n

When a successful connection is established, the success icon appears. This icon remains as long as the connection is established.<\/p>\n

Server names are remembered between Excel sessions. Server names that have been saved from previous sessions can be deleted by clicking the delete icon.<\/p>\n

3. Enter the remaining details for the IFS OI Explorer connection:<\/p>\n

Request Timeout<\/strong>:\u00a0The maximum time to wait for a response from the server before reporting a failure. The default is 2 minutes.<\/p>\n

Number of Rows Reserved for Results<\/strong>:\u00a0This setting controls the number of rows reserved for array formula results. This number can be increased if your fetches return a large number of rows. The default is 2500.<\/p>\n

Excel date format<\/strong>: The Excel date format is used when IFS OI Excel Add-in outputs dates into the worksheets. The format of date cells will be set to this custom format. This format is used for each request and will change the cell format if this format changes.<\/p>\n

Connecting to a New Server<\/h2>\n

Clicking the Connection<\/strong> \u00a0icon opens the Data Connections<\/strong> dialog box.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Click the Add Connection<\/strong> \u00a0icon to connect to a new server.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The new server will initially be added as 'localhost'.<\/p>\n

a. Change the server name in the panel on the right.<\/p>\n

b. Select the correct version of IFS OI Explorer that you are connecting to.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

c. The Security URI displays the corresponding URI for IFS OI Security. This will usually be the same as the Server Address, as IFS OI Security is usually installed on the same server as IFS OI Explorer. You should change this if IFS OI Security is installed on a different server.<\/p>\n

d. If IFS OI Explorer has HTTPS enabled (this is usually the case), select the Use Secure Connection<\/strong> check box.<\/p>\n

e. If you have more than one connection, you can select one of them to be the default, by selecting the This is the default connection<\/strong> check box.<\/p>\n

2. If you want to connect to the server as a different user, click the Current User<\/strong> link. Fill in the appropriate information for the new credentials, and then click OK.<\/p>\n

3. Click OK <\/strong>again to return to the Settings <\/strong>panel.<\/p>\n

4. Select the new server from the drop-down list, and then click Test connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When a successful connection is established, the success \u00a0icon appears.<\/p>\n

If Your Connection Fails<\/h2>\n

If your connection fails, you will see a red indicator next to the Server box.<\/p>\n

Click this icon to open the Connection Status<\/strong><\/a> panel.<\/p>\n

Click the messages to see more information about them in the panel below the list, to assist you with troubleshooting.<\/p>\n

Click the Setup<\/strong> <\/strong>\u00a0button on the ribbon to go back to the Settings<\/strong> panel and try again.<\/p>\n

Click the Clear<\/strong> link in the bottom right corner to remove the messages from the list.<\/p>\n
