Overview<\/span><\/h2>\n

Tags and attributes<\/a> have values that can be added to trends<\/a> or viewed on pages, with or without calculations, to help you diagnose problems and visualise value changes over time.<\/p>\n

Data that has been organised into a hierarchy<\/a> in P2 Server can be located using Hierarchy Search or Navigation. The actual flat list of tags can be located using Tag Search.<\/p>\n

This article shows you how to select a hierarchy, then navigate or search for entities, to pick attributes and attribute values. The article also describes how to search for tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Attribute - fully qualified<\/strong>:<\/td>\nThese attributes were dragged onto the trend's tag list from the hierarchy entity's attribute list. They contain the Entity name (Well 1), the Template name (Oil Producing Well), the Attribute (Tubing Head Pressure), and the Attribute Value (Target for the first one, and Actual for the second).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Attribute<\/strong>:<\/td>\nThis is an attribute that has been typed in. It's missing the template name, and also the attribute value. The value here is for the Primary<\/em> template, and for the default<\/em> Attribute Value, which makes this attribute value {TWell 1:Tubing Head Pressure} identical to the one to its left: {TWell 1[Oil Producing Well]:Tubing Head Pressure!Actual}. You can also type in the attribute name, surrounded by curly brackets {}<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Tutorial 1 - Hierarchy Navigation<\/span><\/h2>\n

In this tutorial we'll navigate through the hierarchy until we find a particular entity. Then, we'll drop some of this entity's attributes onto a trend.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hierarchy navigation is structured over two panels: the hierarchy panel and the attribute panel, as shown below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step by Step: Dropping an Attribute onto a Trend<\/strong><\/p>\n

We're going to search for some attributes to drop onto a trend. First we'll navigate<\/em> to an entity and use some of its attributes, and then we'll search<\/em> for another entity and use some of its attributes.<\/p>\n

First we'll open a new trend.<\/p>\n

If you have access to the training environment, you can follow the steps exactly as outlined here. Otherwise, you will need to adjust the configuration to suit your data.<\/p>\n

Step 1. Add a New Trend<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open the Home<\/strong> tab on the Explorer ribbon, and click New Trend<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This opens a new Blank Trend<\/em>. We're going to search for tags to use on this trend.<\/p>\n

1. Open the View<\/strong> tab on the Explorer ribbon, and click Hierarchy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2. Select Test Time Series Hierarchy<\/em> from the hierarchies<\/em> drop-down list.<\/p>\n

3. Click to expand TOrganisation 1<\/em>, then TRegion 1<\/em>, then TArea 1<\/em>, TField 1<\/em> and TWell 1<\/em>.<\/p>\n

4. Click the Attributes<\/em> button to the right of TWell1<\/em> entity, to open the Attributes<\/em> panel.<\/p>\n

Step 3. Select an Attribute from the Attribute panel<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Attributes<\/em> panel lists all the attribute values for your selected entity, TWell 1<\/em>.<\/p>\n

1. Locate the Oil Producing Well<\/em> template on the Attribute panel.<\/p>\n

2. Locate the Well<\/em> attribute group within the Oil Producing Well<\/em> template.<\/p>\n

3. Locate the Age!Expected<\/em> attribute value within the Well<\/em> attribute group.<\/p>\n

Now search for attribute Age!Actual<\/em> within the same attribute group<\/em> and drop it onto the trend's Tag list.<\/p>\n

You've managed to navigate to an entity, and add two of that entity's attributes to a trend. You can see the how the tag values change over time, if you use a trend hairline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1. In the Hierarchy panel search box, type in the name of the entity you are searching for. As soon as you have typed three letters, a search results<\/em> drop-down list appears below the search box. The list contains a maximum of ten entities, each with its primary template. If your entity is not in the list, you can type more letters into the search box, to get the next list of up to ten entities.<\/p>\n

2. Click the entity you want to find in the hierarchy.<\/p>\n

The drop-down list disappears, and the chosen entity is selected in the hierarchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
