You can create custom event views within a workspace or folder. The custom report can be independent of any of the monitors stored under a particular workspace or folder, and you may move a saved report to another workspace or folder, without affecting the report.<\/p>\n

Opening an Event View Report<\/h2>\n

To open an event view report:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. In the Workspace panel, within a workspace or folder, locate the event view (hierarchy report, event report, event history report, or event timeline report) that you want to see.<\/li>\n
  2. Right-click on the event view, and select View <\/strong><\/strong> from the list, or double-click the event view.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The report is displayed on a separate page in the main panel.<\/p>\n

    Creating a Custom Event View Report<\/h2>\n

    To create a new event view:<\/p>\n

    1. In the Workspace panel, right-click on the Workspace or Folder where you want to create the new event view.<\/p>\n

    2. Select New Event View<\/strong> from the list.<\/p>\n

    The New Event View<\/strong> window appears in the Main panel.<\/p>\n

    3. Select a report type.<\/p>\n

    4. Fill in the required fields, described in the following sections.<\/p>\n

    5. Save<\/em><\/strong> or view<\/em><\/strong> the new report.<\/p>\n

    Note: You cannot save changes to a report while viewing it from the New Event View<\/strong> window. If you want to save the report, save it first and view it later.<\/p>\n

    Event Report<\/h3>\n

    <\/p>\n

    • Hierarchy<\/strong>: Click the button next to the edit box, and select the Hierarchy (and optionally the Entity for the Starting Point). The selected hierarchy and starting point (if selected) appear in the Hierarchy<\/strong> and Starting Point<\/strong> edit boxes, respectively.<\/li>\n
    • Template<\/strong>: Select a template, or All Templates, from the Template<\/strong> drop-down list. The templates listed are those that use the selected entity within the selected hierarchy, from the starting point.<\/li>\n
    • Workspace<\/strong>: Select the workspace on which to base the report. If you select This Workspace<\/strong>, then the report only applies to monitors in the workspace where it resides (created or moved to).<\/li>\n
    • Start Time<\/strong>: Use the date-time picker to select a start time.<\/li>\n
    • End Time<\/strong>: Use the date-time picker select an end time. Events that started within this period are shown in the report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Event History Report<\/h3>\n

      • Hierarchy<\/strong>: Click the button next to the edit box, and select the Hierarchy (and optionally the Entity for the Starting Point).\u00a0The selected hierarchy and starting point (if selected) appear in the Hierarchy<\/strong> and Starting Point<\/strong> edit boxes, respectively.<\/li>\n
      • Template<\/strong>: Select a template, or All Templates, from the Template<\/strong> drop-down list. Templates listed are those that use the selected entity within the selected hierarchy, from the starting point.<\/li>\n

      • History<\/strong>: Select a period. Events that started within this period are shown in the report. For example, select Week to Date Sunday to show events that started in the current week (including Sunday).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Event Timeline Report<\/h3>\n

        • Hierarchy<\/strong>: Click the button next to the edit box, and select the Hierarchy (and optionally the Entity for the Starting Point). The selected hierarchy and starting point (if selected) appear in the Hierarchy<\/strong> edit box and the Starting Point<\/strong> edit box, respectively.<\/li>\n
        • Template<\/strong>: Select a template, or All Templates. Templates listed are those that use the selected entity within the selected hierarchy, from the starting point.<\/li>\n
        • Period<\/strong>: The period you select dictates the start time for the range of events displayed in the report, with current time being the end time. Periods to choose from are:\n
            \n
          • Last Hour<\/li>\n
          • Last Day<\/li>\n
          • Last Week<\/li>\n
          • Last Month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
          • Workspace<\/strong>: Select which workspace the report is based on (This Workspace or All Workspaces).<\/li>\n
          • Select the Filter Severity of None<\/strong> check box, if you do not want events of severity None<\/strong> displayed in the event timeline.<\/li>\n
          • Select the Show Invalid Events<\/strong> check box, if you want invalid events to be included in the report. This option is only available if Case Management is enabled in Sentinel. An event is Invalid if its related case was rejected in Explorer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Hierarchy Report<\/h3>\n

              Save or View the Report<\/h2>\n
                \n
              1. To save the report, click Save<\/strong>.
                \n<\/li>\n
              2. In the Save Event View<\/strong> window, in the Name<\/strong> edit box, type a name for the report.<\/li>\n
              3. In the Description<\/strong> edit box, type a description. This is an optional description of the report, which appears when you hover the mouse over the report in the Workspace panel.<\/li>\n
              4. Click Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                The new event view report is saved under the folder or workspace under which you created it.<\/p>\n

                  \n
                • To view the report, click View.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  The report is displayed in a new tab in the Main panel.<\/p>\n

                  Editing an Event View Report<\/h2>\n

                  To edit an event view report:<\/p>\n

                  1. In the Workspace panel, within a workspace or folder, locate the event view (hierarchy report, event report or event history report or event timeline report) that you want to edit.<\/p>\n

                  2. Right-click on the report.<\/p>\n

                  3. Select Edit <\/strong><\/strong> from the list.<\/p>\n

                  The Edit Event View<\/strong> window appears in the Main panel. Example:<\/p>\n

                  <\/p>\n

                  4. Edit the report.<\/p>\n

                  To update the report type:<\/strong><\/p>\n

                    \n
                  • Select another report type from the Type<\/strong> drop-down list.
                    \nThe screen changes according to the new type selected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    To update the Hierarchy and Starting Point<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

                      \n
                    1. Click the button next to the Hierarchy<\/strong> edit box.<\/li>\n
                    2. Select the Hierarchy for the Hierarchy<\/strong> edit box, and the Entity for the Starting Point<\/strong> box.\n
                        \n
                      • To update the template, select a Template from the Template<\/strong> drop-down list.<\/li>\n
                      • To change the period (this applies to event timeline reports only), select another Period from the Period<\/strong> drop-down list.<\/li>\n
                      • To change the workspace, select All Workspaces or This Workspace from the Workspace <\/strong>drop-down list.<\/li>\n
                      • To show or hide events with a severity of None, select or deselect the Filter Severity of None<\/strong> check box (this applies to Event Timeline reports only).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        5. Save<\/em><\/strong> or View<\/em><\/strong> the changes.<\/p>\n

                        Note: You cannot save changes to a report while viewing it from the Edit Event View<\/strong> window. If you want to save the report, save it first then view it later.<\/p>\n

                        Deleting an Event View Report<\/h2>\n

                        To delete an event view report:<\/p>\n

                          \n
                        1. In the Workspace panel, within a workspace or folder, locate the event view (hierarchy report or event timeline report) that you want to delete.<\/li>\n
                        2. Right-click on the report.<\/li>\n
                        3. Select Delete <\/strong><\/strong> from the list.<\/li>\n
                        4. Click Yes<\/strong> at the Delete event view<\/strong> prompt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                          The event view report is deleted.<\/p>\n

                          \n

                          Moving an Event View Report<\/h2>\n

                          You may move an event view report to a different workspace, or to another folder.<\/p>\n

                          1. In the Workspace panel, locate the event view (hierarchy, event, event history report or event timeline report) that you want to move.<\/p>\n

                          2. Click and drag the custom event view report to the destination workspace or folder.<\/p>\n

                          Tip: The destination workspace or folder is displayed when the report is correctly positioned.<\/p>\n

                          3. Release the mouse button.<\/p>\n

                          The event view report is moved to the destination workspace or folder.<\/p>\n

                          Note: For event views where the workspace is defined as This Workspace, the report will only include events relating to monitors that belong to the destination workspace.<\/p>\n
