This article is about how to create template groups using IFS OI Server Management or the Import\/Export spreadsheet. For general information on templates, see: \u00a0Templates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Template\u00a0groups are a way of organising all the\u00a0templates<\/a> you use into useful groups, so that your system administrators don\u2019t end up with a single long list of 50 templates to maintain.\u00a0Template groups are mainly used for display purposes in IFS OI Server Management, and you can have as many as required. For example, you might have templates that describe measuring equipment, wells, vehicle fleet, corporate areas, and so on.<\/p>\n

When setting up the system, we define a global set of names for the template\u00a0groups. At this stage, we do not define what templates\u00a0belong to the group, we only define the common list of group names.<\/p>\n

Server Management<\/span><\/h2>\n

To create a template group in IFS OI Server Management:<\/p>\n

1. Open IFS OI Server Management, and click the Configuration<\/strong> \"configurationicon\"\u00a0icon.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2. Click Template Groups<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. Click Create New Template\u00a0Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Note: If you want to edit an existing group, select\u00a0it from the list below the Create button.<\/p>\n

4. Give the group a name<\/strong> and a description<\/strong>. Note that the name cannot contain any reserved characters<\/a>.\u00a0For the description, it\u2019s often useful to provide a broader explanation\u00a0of the purpose of the template\u00a0and how it will be used.\u00a0<\/p>\n

5. When you have finished, click the Save<\/strong> button in the top right corner.<\/p>\n

Import\/Export Spreadsheet<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Import\/Export spreadsheet is generally only used to make bulk changes.<\/p>\n

For details on the spreadsheet and how to obtain it, see\u00a0Exporting Your Configuration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you want to create template\u00a0groups as part of a bulk configuration, use the Template\u00a0Group<\/strong>\u00a0tab in the Import\/Export spreadsheet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fields you need to fill in here are the same as the ones in Server Management.<\/p>\n

Look for the red\u00a0comment \"commentred\"\u00a0icon in the row headers, to get help with each column.<\/p>\n

DO NOT fill in or change anything in the Global Id field \u2013 this is the unique identifier for the template\u00a0group\u00a0that allows it to be tracked across systems, and when it is renamed. It is automatically generated by the system.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dependencies<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Template Group tab\u00a0has no dependencies on information from other tabs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
